Back a few years ago when I embarked on this whole attitude of “I’m going to be super cool outdoorsy, seize opportunity, and have adventures”, I thought I was pretty darn unique. I mean, really – girl in her 20’s loves the outdoors and is going to say ‘Heck yeah!’ to extreme adventures. Well, soon enough I figured out that I was actually just one of many… and that wasn’t a bad thing at all. Nothing propels you to go further, try harder, and dream bigger than some fellow adventurers.

So, who really motivates me? Meet three of my favorites outdoor ladies (in no particular order)… and go follow their adventures!

MorningFreshFirst up is Ms. Katie Boue of The Morning Fresh and Simply Adventure. If you’re looking for someone who can tell you something about everything from car camping, travel, the best food and recipes almost everywhere (with pictures that will leave you hungry for days), Katie is the girl to follow. And the next year is probably the best year ever to follow her. She and her boyfriend Niko are about to embark on a massive year long road trip in a giant yellow can that will take them all around the United States… starting tonight. They’ll be focused on climbing and promoting conservation, so I seriously can’t wait to see what’s to come.

GinaBeginOne of the first awesome people I “met” as I embarked on my adventure planning was Gina Begin. Like most adventurers, Gina is a lady of many talents. In 2011, Gina and her friend Steve embarked on The Most Epic Trip. They traveled to 22 states, 3 provinces, and 36 different climbing areas in an impossibly tiny vehicle for 14,000 miles of road tripping. Her blog is full of her unbelievable adventures (heli-skiing in Alaska with Columbia Sportswear?) and seriously motivational goals (Patagonia Expedition?). You won’t be able to  read 10 of her posts without wanting to go do something extreme.

AdventureFilledLast but not least, after months of crossing paths in the social outdoor scene, I finally got a chance to climb with Laurie Tewksbury and I’m so glad I did! Besides the fact that her excitement for all things outdoors in seriously contagious, Laurie is passionate about exploring every square foot of the outdoors around her and it shows in her blog, Adventure Filled. This is a girl who talks about white water rafting in the afternoon after work like someone would about grabbing coffee. She makes adventure wherever she goes so check out her blog for a little bit of everything!

SemiRadNow, I realize I said I had three favorites who motivate me – but I had to throw one more blogger in just because if you’re looking for even more to read, you can’t miss this one. He’s not a 20 something girl, but Brendan of Semi-Rad is pretty much awesome. Semi-Rad is entirely and utterly about the ironies, hilarities, and oddities of being a member of the outdoor community. I can’t even pick a favorite article, so just get clicking. You won’t be sorry.

What are your favorite outdoor blogs?

  1. I tend to read a bit more about people traveling the country (often in Sprinter vans like us…): Sprinter Life (, The Roaming Pint (beer! and travel!), etc.

I also read Heather’s Just A Colorado Gal and probably more I’m just not thinking of right now. 🙂

About Jillian Bejtlich

Hey! I'm Jillian Bejtlich. I’m a lifelong New Englander with a serious love of the outdoors, adventure, and a pretty serious inability to sit still. I’m plagued by the travel bug, and it seems I’ll try any relatively sane and safe thing once. My big goal in life: Get people outside!
